In regards to the faction in Egypt, I believe the role of the salafists must be scaled back. They may try and portray that they are protecting the welfare of the country; however, I tend to think otherwise. How can anyone in his right mind, promote marrying a 9 year girl. If that is tolerated, well then an armed rebellion must follow. I am not familiar with the practice, but I still know whenever something is inappropriate. I know that I am pushing my own agenda, and exposing my bias. My view is that, a 9 year is a child and should never be married to anyone, unless it is the Barbie doll, Ken.
Not too far from the Salafits are the Federalist. Some may disagree I’m sure. Well, anyone that enslaves another human being, or use brute force to intimidate others, is a total good-for-nothing. Then they have the audacity to use the constitution to back them up, with their elitist views.
Presently, Egypt is embroiled in the beginning of its democracy. Freedom should be the top priority. But, as we know, there are many who are willing to assault the very freedoms that others are fighting for. I say this to talk about the physical attack that was wielded against a well known female reporter in Tahrir Square. As a woman, and someone who believes in liberty and free will for all, I am still very shocked and disturbed about the incident. I just elaborated on that particular incident because I know that in the quest for sovereignty, there will be many stumbling blocks. That being said, they must press on.
The Anti-Federalists can be compared to the Liberals in Egypt. In Egypt they want “justice, equality, freedom, mercy, social solidarity and comraderie.” The Anti-Federalist wanted to be on the side of the “common people.”
100% agree with you on the stupidity and immorality of enforcing the Sharia Law and Islamic beliefs upon the nation that just fought a revolution for a better future. It is a disgusting feature if the state endorses pre-teens marrying men of age, along with stoning of women accused of "adultery" and divorcing one on basis of "talaq". Sure, if one does choose Islam as their way of life I shall not have a problem with that, but enforcing ones beliefs and values on others is just terribly horrifying and must be prevented.
ReplyDeleteNusha, True, I agree that this should be prevented.
