Dred Scott Decision

Dred Scott Decision (1857)

“Now I protest against that counterfeit logic which concludes that, because I do not want a black woman for a slave I must necessarily want her for a wife.  I need not have her for either, I can just leave her alone”.

This is where the power of peer pressure comes into play.  The passage is plainly stating that the author did not want black women to be slaves anymore.  But, someone else is deciding that, if the author did not want black women to be slaves, then maybe secretly his desire is to marry a black woman.  I chose this passage to see the use of the good old fear tactic strategy.  Does this mean that if I did not support the war effort in Iraq that makes me a supporter of terrorism?  Quite on the contrary.  I know that I was being lied to by the previous Administration, thus, I did not just fall in line and espouse lies and deception about another country.  People who know better should do better.
