The Puritan Family: Religion and Domestic Relations in Seventeenth-Century New England, by Edmund S. Morgan.
The aim of this book was to try and shed light on many aspects of the Puritans lifestyle. Obviously, we are aware of the stereotypes, for instance witch hunts etc. However, there were other facets in relation to the Puritan lifestyle. This book dealt with the issue of family, because the Puritans considered the family unit to be of the utmost importance.
The Puritans were not in the business of saving their own souls. Instead, they wanted to make sure that other individuals were sustained and had the Grace of God. Even it was done forcefully.
The puritans had a democratic self government in which they had strong religious beliefs imprinted upon the American culture.
